Prepping and shipping items are one of the biggest time sucks that I experience on a daily basis. It is a blast to scan and find items, but it is a pain to remove all of the stickers, pack the boxes, and carry them out to the porch. Here are a few tricks that I have learned during my last few years that have saved me a lot of time and frustration.
Here we go!
1. Organization – Every time that I get a new box in the mail or pull a bag out of the trunk of my car, the first step I take is organizing the products with other like products. If you take a look in my garage, you will see multiple items of the same SKU in piles. This organization allows you to easily scan a single item and quickly pack and count the items. It might seem like a waste of time, but the extra 20 minutes of sorting can save hours during preparation in the long run.
2. Invest in the Tools – Imagine you are a farmer. In the old days, you use to use oxen to plow your land. Last year, you invested into a tractor to help reduce the amount of time that you spent plowing, The same concept holds true with your Amazon business. You can spend the time processing products by typing in the UPC code and peeling off all of the stickers with your fingers. You can also invest some of your profit into purchasing the tools that are a time saving investment. These tools include items like Inventory Labs and tools like scales, scotty peelers, and heat guns.
3. Ration Your Time – Time is money and it is also a limited resource. There are only 24 hours in the day and it is extremely important to manage your time as best as you can. You can always increase your time for business by hiring employees or outsourcing prep work to a prep company. Both of these options will reduce your time in prepping and allow you to focus on other money making opportunities.
I will admit that there are a million more ways to speed up the prepping and shipping process, but I hope this post pushes you in the right direction.
Until Next Time,
