A few weeks back on Facebook, I saw an ad for a new subscription service called Tayst. It is a subscription service that specializes in K-cups (and I’m currently drinking one and it is fantastic).
So I started thinking….
What other services/products could be sold in subscription box form?
After that thought I laid out a few different parameters that might help you start to brainstorm possible options:
1 – The items must be consumable, disposable, or exclusive. The end customer needs a reason to receive the box each month. Some of the best examples of this are as follows:
Consumable: KitNip Box
Disposable: Dollar Shave Club
Exclusive: Loot Crate
2 – It should provide value for the customer that is above what they are paying for each box. This value might come in two different ways:
Monetary or time savings
It should be a no brainer that if you save someone money or provide value over the amount that is paid, they will be happy customers.
The time savings avenue is also extremely powerful. Because we all know that time = money.
For example: My wife and her best friend were sitting in my living room and I saw a Facebook ad (imagine that – another Facebook ad) for a new product line from Tidy Cats.
It was a disposable litter box that came pre-filled with litter.
I know. So exciting.
Well. It actually is. My wife or I spend a ton of time each month handling the litter. If you show me a way that I can not have to worry about it anymore, I’m sold.
Solve a problem and you’ll have people begging to pay you
3 – Finally, you will need to get it in front of people who would actually want to purchase your box. This is where your marketing prowess comes into play.
As you can see from my examples above, I heard about the majority of these boxes through Facebook ads.
That’s not the only way to generate traffic and customers, but it is a way to get in front of an audience if you do not already have one.
If you already have a good sized audience, you can send out an email push, write a blog post, set up a new site, etc etc.
I hope this can give you a spark to start your brain in the right direction!
