Online Selling Podcast 003 – Behind the Gates

If you have been selling on Amazon for any amount of time, you have heard the term “gated.” Most people see this as a hurdle for their business and others see it as a way Amazon is trying to hurt their business. I look at it a bit differently.

This podcast covers the reasoning behind the gating of certain categories and also explores the reasons you might want to apply to be ungated. I also walk through the ungating process with 3 different case studies to show you what I have learned about the way Amazon operates in regards to their approval process.

I highly encourage anyone who listens to this podcast to take some time and read through all of the rules on Amazon Seller Central and also some time to consider if expanding into additional catagories is right for your business model.

Really good podcast. A lot of questions about gated categories were answered.
Also, liked the case studies of what happened to different people applying.
Even got into the categories that want a website and what to do about it.
Doesn’t seem so difficult to do now.
    A lot of Value !
    Thanks Chris

Thanks Chris for sharing. Can I apply 2 restricted category (for instance grocery and luggage) at the same time or I am better off apply one at the time? How long should I wait to reapply if I get rejected?

You can apply for multiple at once. Doesn’t make a difference on the Amazon end of things. I would wait a few days before reapplying if you get rejected.
