What is OAXRAY?

OAXRay is an online arbitrage Google Chrome extension that speeds up the process of finding profitable items from online retailers. These items are found and then purchased by you, sent to Amazon via the Fulfillment by Amazon service (FBA), and then sold for a profit. This process is typically referred to as online arbitrage or OA. You can also use OAXRay to find deals that are profitable for Merchant Fulfilled (MF or third party fulfillment) as the software can calculate for both methods of shipping.

Yeah. That was a little bet of a technical overview. I know that’s not why you are here.

You are more interested in how you can use this online arbitrage software to find amazing deals online and flip them to make a profit. Right?

Then you came to the right place. I have been using OAXRay for a couple of years and have become an expert in using it to help others make money selling on Amazon.

This post is a culmination of all of my knowledge of OAXRay, how to use it, how to generate a profit. Think of it as an FBA Master In-Depth Review of OAXRay and then throw in an In-Depth OAXRay user guide.

So get out your notebook (or just simply save this post as a bookmark) and get ready to take a deep dive into one of the best online arbitrage softwares on the market today.

Wait. Let’s address your first question. If this too good to be true?

You are telling me that I can sit in my bed (in my underwear) and make money each and every day with nothing more than a computer and an internet connection? I can also take my computer on vacation with me and never touch a product and still make money before the rest of my family wakes up?

Yeah. I am telling you that you can do just that.

But…..

You actually have to put forth the effort and learn how to make this business (Amazon FBA) actually work.

I am going to provide you with the resources and tools you need, but it is on you to provide the hustle, do your homework, and make this a reality.

As with any business, there will be risks, but if you manage them properly, you can create a successful business.

I’ve been doing this for over 2 years and we can prove it works, but it only works for those who have the desire to make it work. This is not a passive income stream. It is an active income stream that requires an investment of time and research upfront and then you can reap the benefits later.

So now that we have that out of the way, let’s get into some more details about OAXRay.

Why OAXRay?

I have used quite a few different tools over my time as an Amazon seller, but there are only a handful that have made me significant amounts of money. OAXRay has made me thousands if not tens of thousands since I started using it. Since I started using it, I have learned everything I could about OAXRay and I know it can make any user a lot of money, if they use it correctly.

Just remember, like everything else there is a learning curve. Follow this guide and you will be off to a great start making profit with OAXRAY.

What do I need to start using OAXRAY for online arbitrage?

Well all you really need is a computer, Google Chrome (that’s a browser that is the preferred browser for all Amazon sellers), an internet connection, and an Amazon Seller account. Oh. And you’ll need some money to invest into products – the amount is up to you! If you are just getting started, $100-$500 tends to be a good starting point. If you are an experience Amazon seller, it can be upwards of $10k or more.

A question I get all the time is: What kind of computer do I need to have in order to run OAXRay?

Well. You can use a PC or a Mac as long as you have Google Chrome installed on your computer. OAXRay is a Google Chrome Extension and exclusively works on that browser. As for the speed of your computer, the faster the better. You can get by with that cheap Black Friday laptop (and 50% of user I know use just that), but if you want to do a ton of searches, you will want to upgrade to something with a lot of RAM and processing power (but don’t let a computer stop you from using OAXRay, I like to tell people to use their slower computer to find enough products to make enough profit to buy a newer, faster computer).

And that’s really all you need to have in order to use OAXRay.

If you want to speed up the process, there are a few other things that might make you life a little easier. These are Chrome extensions that I either use on a daily basis or have created specifically to use in conjunction with OAXRay.

Keepa: This is one that I wish I would have created, but it is a must have for any Amazon seller! It gives you the supply and demand (price and sales rank) history for the majority of products on Amazon. I would be lost without this amazing plugin and you can find a ton of training articles on it here on the FBA Master blog.
Variation Checker – This is one that I built to speed up the process of finding the different variations of a clothing or shoe listing on Amazon. It’s free for you if you simply type $0 into the price box.

Sales Rank Checker – This is another one I built to help those who aren’t familiar with the whole notion of Amazon sales rank. It’s free for you if you simply type $0 into the price box.

How do I use OAXRAY?

Using OAXRay is really easy. You just open one of the websites that are supported, search for a category you like to sell in, and hit the magic OAXRay button in your Chrome browser. For example:

Click on toys
Click the OAXRay button and watch the analysis happen!

How do I determine what a good purchase? What is a good sales rank?

Well. That all depends on the category and the profit margin.

If I was going to give you some basic guidelines, this would be what I would consider a reasonable sales rank in a given category. Please note that sales rank works in the reverse way as most people think. The lower the number the faster the item sells.

As a rule of thumb, there are the sales ranks I look for when sourcing for items online and at retail stores.

Baby: 20,000 or lower

Grocery and Video Games: 20,000 or lower.

Clothing and Shoes: 50,000 or lower.

All other categories: 100,000 or lower.

Toys: 150,000 or lower.

Books: 750,000 or lower.

Again. These are all relative and can change based upon the profit margins of a given item. The higher the profit margin, the higher I am willing to go on sales rank.

What websites does OAXRay support?

The list is always expanding, but it is broken up into two different types of sites:

Sites matched by UPC (Universal Product Code)
Sites matched by product title

Typically, the sites that are matched by UPC code provide more accurate results, but the title matched sites still provide some great results.

As of 10/29/2016, OAXRay supports 329 sites: 159 matched on UPC codes and 170 matched on product titles. A full list of all of the sites can be seen here.

What makes a good flip?

Now it’s one thing to be able to find good deals using OAXRay, but you also need to know what factors to look at to know when to make a purchase. If you don’t have a clear list of criteria to help you make a purchasing decision, you can spend hours finding good deals and end up purchasing the wrong items!

Here is a list of everything I look for when deciding whether or not to purchase an item:

I like my rank to be just as I described above. The lower the sales rank the better.
I then take a look at the total cost of the item. I like to sell higher price items because it takes less time to prep and ship than a bunch of lower priced items. For example: One camera that make $100 is easier to prep than 100 toys that make $1.
I like to keep my profit margin around 60% or higher. I would love to make 1000% on every item, but that is just not feasible. I feel as if I am making a smart investment if I can get 60% back on an item.
I look at the sales rank history. I want to make sure that this price isn’t too high and that is has a history of selling. I do this on CamelCamelCamel or Keepa.
If it meets those criteria, I buy.

It’s really that simple. I tell people this and they are just dumbfounded. They think I have some special formula to make money, but I really just follow these basic rules.

The basics of OAXRay

If you really want to learn about the basics of OAXRay, the video above is a perfect place to start. It was the first part of a 4 part course I taught over using OAXRay.

Like I mentioned above, it’s very easy to use.

Now there will be a bunch of little buttons and checkboxes that you can click, check, or yell at (if you aren’t tech savvy). Don’t get freaked out by them at all. They are all just ways to help you filter (or sort) out what products you want or do not want to see in your results.

The first basic way to use OAXRay is to run the search and simply hit the “Positive ROI” button. This will simply show you all of the results that came back with a positive return on investment.

This is a great place to start, but you can really tweak some of the settings to take your online arbitrage to the next level.

Instead of simply clicking on the Positive Return button, I actually have a strategy laid out that can speed up my online sourcing. I am able to weed through junk and have OAXRay give me exactly what I am looking for in terms of deals online.

Other uses for OAXRAY

You can use OAXRay to find deals the traditional way, or you can take your online sourcing to the next level with one of these online arbitrage methods that utilize the tool.

Find products that are currently not listed on Amazon and take them to market. All you need to do is scan the same pages you normally would scan and look for those listings that are currently not offered. Then use OAXRay to find the store that has that item at the cheapest price and create your listing.

Use OAX for price matching opportunities. Are you someone who can’t purchase from Target? Well why let that stop you from a great deal? Use OAX to find the lowest advertised price and then contact your store of choice to get the price matched. This is also great if you can find better cash back on a given site or better gift card deals.

Use it to track Amazon price matching. So I just said you can use it for other stores, but if you love AZ to AZ flips, you can use it to your advantage to catch price drops that others might pass up on. If you hover over the Keepa feature, you will see that there is a sharp drop in the chart – That turns what could have been an item to pass on into a great find.

Use it for Retail Arbitrage (RA). In my opinion, this is one of the most under utilized features of OAX. If you are heading out on a huge sourcing trip, why wouldn’t you want a scouting report? Use OAX to pre-scan certain items and save your time (and battery) by knowing which items are going to be a profitable find ahead of time.

Use it to control the supply of a clearance item. You get that nice little email about an upcoming sale and you don’t want to compete with other sellers hopping on the listing. Guess what, you can try to curb this by using OAX to quickly find the deals and then purchase all of the available stock.

Find Merchant Fulfilled (MF) opportunities. I was doing this like crazy during Q4. You can run quick scans of local stores and find items that have a really good margin. Once you find these items, I would place the Site to Store pickup and wait for my confirmation. Once I got it, I would list the item and go get dinner. Once the item sold, I would head to the store and pick it up.

Speed up finding Amazon to Amazon flips. What if you could run a search on Amazon and see all of the Keepa charts at one time. You actually can do that with OAX. If you use the AZ to AZ deal button, you can actually run a search and see it all on one screen (and feel like a badass doing it).

Use it to finish up a day of Retail Arbitrage. Number 4 told you how to use it before you go sourcing, but what if you could follow up a day of sourcing with even more sourcing!? If you found some great deals, it is a perfect opportunity to find even better deals (or more of an item) if you run your products through OAX when you get home.

Use it backwards from Amazon. This is one that I love and use all of the time. If I am curious how someone is making money on a given item, I use OAX to reverse engineer my way to the deal. Instead of opening 40 sites and looking for the same product, I am able to run OAX one time and have all the information at my fingertips.

Use it to spot artificially high sales ranks. Sales ranks rise when there are no sales. Well guess what? If no one is selling the product, sales aren’t going to happen. This is a perfect way to use OAX to find the listings that have no sellers on Amazon and see if you can bring the product back to market.

Train a VA to use it for your all day, everyday. This should be a no brainer, but sometimes people overlook it. If you want someone to search all of the interwebs for deals, then hire someone to do so. You will get to a point where you don’t have enough money for all of the deals!

Finding listings with “no sales rank.” Some people call these “shadow listings,” but I like to call them money making opportunities. These are the items that have no sales ranks, but have a good brand name and a ton of reviews. Most people look right past these items when there is actually a ton of money to be made.

Run wholesale lists through OAX. Why would you spend the time to individually look through a product list from a wholesaler? Simply upload the UPC codes to OAX (via their CSV function) and let OAX do the rest of the work. Not only does this save you time, but it also allows you to leverage opportunities for product listing creation.

Find eBay deals before anyone else. When people make a mistake by listing a product on eBay at a really low Buy It Now price, it goes quick. If you run OAX on that search on eBay, you can quickly buy the listings before anyone else has a chance to grab it up.

Stack coupon codes, gift cards, and cash back sites. You guys know that this is hands down my favorite way to use OAX and I hope you guys love it as much as I do. Remember – you can make more cash on the front end and reduce your buy cost tremendously.

Analyze variations of products. Too many times we see a good deal on one size or color, but don’t really know about the rest of the variations. I love to use the variation analyzer tab at the top to dive into all of the different colors, sizes, and shapes imaginable.

Use it for personal shopping. Who says you can’t mix business with pleasure. Use OAX and the methods listed above to be the best deal finder in the world. Have a kid that wants an Easy Bake Over? Move over, OAX can help you find the cheapest store out there.

Use it to search for used products. I have tried this a few times, but there is so much opportunity with this one. You can turn on the “used” feature and start sourcing for used items. I have done this on book sites and it has been mind blowing.

Find Amazon to eBay flips. We just spent a ton of time talking about how you can use this to sell on Amazon, but what if you used it to find items to sell on eBay…….Welcome to the Twilight Zone.

Come up with your own unique way to use it. Don’t be limited to this list. Take one of the ways listed above, turn it on its head, and create your own amazing sourcing technique.

As you can see, the only limit to your success is yourself. Push yourself to think outside of the box and do what no one else is willing to do. That is where the real money is.

When time is an issue, start thinking about outsourcing!

If you want to take your online sourcing with OAXRay to the next level, you will want to start looking into prep centers. A prep center is a business that receives your online purchases and handles all of the packing and prepping of those items for you.

Think of it like your own pack and prep army.

The typical cost per item for this service is around $1. When using OAXRay, I just add $1 into the prep fee section and let it handle the math for me. I build it into the calculations so I don’t have to even worry about it.

The use of an prep center gives you the ability to source online from anywhere in the world and have your inventory hit the Amazon warehouse without you ever touching it. Talk about awesome.
